Volunteers gathered at Elrod Cemetery on Saturday morning, June 3rd, to make preparations for the annual Decoration Day which will take place at 1 p.m. on June 17, 2023. Decorations were removed from monuments throughout the cemetery to make room for fresh flowers and the grounds and surrounding woods were cleared of litter.
This annual pre-decoration cleaning of the cemetery was made possible by the volunteer work of Loyce Wolaver, John Norton, Fred and Linda Gilliam, Charlotte Holman, Royce Smith, Charlene Rice, Stanton Nash, Stephen Conley, Sue Smith, Ed and Louise Cole, and Jonathan Smith. Refreshments for the workers were generously provided by Tim and Laura Dunn of Chestnut Oaks Farm Store and Kitchen just down the road at 7355 Burgess Falls Rd.
Earlier preparations for Decoration Day included installation of new American flags by Rebecca Adcock at the graves of all 42 known veterans in the cemetery.
